MINING NEWS.
Ohinemuri. —During the fortnight ended 19th instant, the north face on the Camoola was extended 40ft, making a total of 686 ft. The drive still carries sulphide ore of good grade, and during the last few feet ruby silver veins are associated with the ore, which extends across the full face. The foundations for the new air-compressor are now completed, and the installation of the machinery will be commenced immediately. The road to the low level shotkld be completed within the next four weeks.
Kuranui.—The manager reports that the drive on the leader in the footwall of the main reef has been extended Bft for the week, making a total of 61ft from the crosscut. The leader has opened out a little, looks very promising, and Is encased in a nice class of country. The leading stope has been carried along a further 10ft. The leader still averages about 4 to 6in, and when breaking down the quartz yesterday a few colours of gold were seen, which looks very promising, as the leader seems to be making going up. New Waiotahl. —The annual meeting of shareholders in the New Walotahi Gold Mining Company takes places on November 29. The report of the directors states that the principal work of the past six months has been trying to locate the WaiotahlCambria reef hillward of the break. A crosscut was laid out by Mr. 13. F. Adams, surveyor. About 195 ft have been driven through a hard grey andesite bar, which caused progress to be slow. The report adds: "Should the reef be met with as anticipated, It Is expected to be In virgin country, and the position in relaton to the big patch seems to warrant the work being done. The expenditure on salaries and wages during the six months totalled £ 608 11/, and on requisites £129 16/5. Directors' fees and travelling expenses were only £18 2/."
Occidental Cna.—The manager reports that the crosscut, to intersect No. 1 reef going north has been advances Bft for the week in Bplendid' country. Going south the No. 1 reef has been cut In the rise, and the quarts broken looks very well, carrying blend and silica. It is intended to connect this rise with the main travelling way, a dstanee of.3oft. This will give ventilation and Open up a good block. Stoping has been continued on the dropper in good country, and gold can be seen in the quarts broken. Mahatcipawa, Ltd.—The power transmis- j sion line from Havelock to the mine, a distance of six miles, is expected to be completed by December, 6. The concrete foundation for the winding winch has been completed, and the winch is in position awaiting the arrival of the electric motor. The water race from Butcher's Creek, with a fall of 70ft to the gold-saving tables, is almost completed, and the construction of the fluming is well under way. Majestic.—During the fortnight ending 19th instant, the south drive was advanced 20ft, making a total of 2642 ft from the main crosscut. A very considerable Change has taken place during the last few feet, the quartz now showing small bands of sulphides, and generally it is of a more [encouraging character than any previously I met with.
