ASSAULT ON HINDU.

YOUNG MAN FINED £2.
The charge brought against Eric Lionel Cleaver (36) at the Police Court this I morning, was one of having assaulted a Hindu fruiterer named Naratom Daji, on Saturday night. Accused pleaded guilty. At 10.30 on Saturday night, said Senior Sergeant McCarthy, Cleaver's companion demanded some fruit without payment from the Hindu, who was at his barrow. When this tequest was refused the companion went away and returned with Cleaver, who assaulted {he Hindu. Another Hindu came upon the scene to assist his dusky brother, and he, too, was assaulted.
Counsel for accused said that Cleaver thought that the Hindu was going to strike him with a fruit case. His friend ran away and left Cleaver to bear the brunt of it.
Cleaver was fined £2, or seven days' imprisonment.
