CRICKET TESTS.

CLAIMS OF AUCKLAND.

an equitable solution.

ROTA OF ALTERNATING LOCALE.

<By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

At the cricket conference many different opinions were expressed as to the allocation of Test matches in connection with future tours. Mr. D. Reese said that the question was governed by finance, and it was for this reason that Wellington and Christchurch received so many Test matches. This position could not continue. The claims of Otago and Auckland were unanswerable.

Air. J. Robson moved that three Test matches be played, one in Christchurch, one in Wellington, and one in Auckland and Otago alternately.

Mr. Reese said that Auckland was the greatest city in New Zealand, and if it could obtain a good gate its claims should be considered on the same basis as those of Christchurch and Wellington. Mr. Barrett said that Mr. Reese's Mews were those of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Council, rest matches provided the finances of the council, and they must be played at the centre where the biggest gate could be obtained.

Mr. Reese said that three Test ntatches would make the programme for the season too long. Employers of players must be considered.

Mr. Robson said that if only two Test matches were played Otago would have little chance of. securing one. Mr. Snedden said cricket had shown great improvement in Auckland, and the prospects were good for improved gates. He was instructed to ask for a Test match with every alternate visiting team.

Mr. Reese said that one year Auckland and Canterbury could have Tests, and next year tl>e" Tests could go to Wellington and Otago. Mr. McKenzie adopted Mr. Reese's suggestion, and moved it as a ipotion. Ihe motion was carried unanimously, the other motion being withdrawn. The position is now that the management committee will allot a Test match to each of the four major centres in the next two tours.
