SENSATIONAL FALL.
TWO RAILWAY TROLLIES
DROP FROM A VIADUCT
TWO MEN INJURED.
(By Telegraph—uwn Correspondent.)
NGARUAWAHIA, this day
A special train reached here last evening with two raihvaymen, T. Herbert and J. Hill, who were injured while travelling over the viaduct on the Waipa Railway and Colliery Co.'s line, part way between Glen Massev and here. The trolleys were travelling in the same direction. When on the viaduct the foremost trolley came to a standstill. The following jigger, however, had too much way on and could not be stopped with the result that both toppled over the viaduct.
THb two men fell on to a ledge on the side of the viaduct, a distance of about 30ft from the railway. They were soon brought up by these who had observed the accident, and fortunately Dr. Douglas Martin happened to be passing through the district, so that he was able to treat them promptly. On learning of the accident, the company arranged for a special train. The acciffent happened shortly before 5 o'clock, and within an hour or so the injured men had been conveyed to Ngaruawahia.
Both men suffered from concussion, and their condition on arrival was regarded as critical. Herbert has a broken leg, and Hill a badlv-sprained ankle, as well as a dislocated jaw. They are now progressing favourably.
