(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, Thursday.

The news of the progress of the Licensing Bill was announced to the Methodist Synod of the Otago-Southland district, and was received with tremendous applause. The announcement later that the Premier had decided to report progress was, members said, a- call to all those who were determined that the will of the people should be carried into effect.

1 The chairman assured a strong deputation from the United Temperance Reform Committee that the Methodists of Otago and Southland would do all that lay in their power to prevent the will of the people being thwarted.

Before the Synod closed it was decided that on behalf of 8000 Methodists in the district telegrams be sent to the Prime Minister and members of the district, expressing the urgent need of giving expression to the will of 'the people by not shelving the bill.
