THAMES NEWS.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. A meeting of the council of the Thames Chamber of Commerce, was held yesterday, the president (Dr. J. B. Liggine) presiding. In reference to the chamber's representations regarding the appointment of a resident magistrate at Thames, the Miuistcr of Justice replied that from information supplied to him, it appeared that the work at Thames is being satisfactorily dealt with under present conditions, and he was therefore unable to comply with the request.

The Borough Council forwarded an amended scale of charges for community lichting of the business premises. Mr. Dauby informed the meeting that he had conferred with the borough electrical engineer on the matter and the time of commencing the lighting had been left in his hands. The president reported that in view of the proposal for a direct shipping service between Lyttelton, Tauranga, Whangarei and Thames, a conference had been held between the committees of the chamber and the Harbour board to consider what assistance should be given the service. It was decided that further inquiries be made from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and from the owner of the boat to run the service, with a view of ascertaining what amount of trade could be expect*, d.

A satisfactory reply -was received from the town clerk that the borough council was endeavouring to secure a suitable piece of the foreshore from the Harbour Board for the purpose of erecting bathing facilities at Tararu.
