Housewives' Column WEEK-END PRICES IN THE SHOPS. Several changes in prices occurred sine* last Friday. Supplica of spring lamb have come forward more freely, with the result that the price has been reduced by one penny to two pence per pound, according to cut. The price -of factory butter was reduced one penny per pound on Thursday morning, but cheese shows no alteration in price. Eggs are not in such good supply, and it is evident the peakof the season has been passed. This week the quantity of eggs sent in Was considerably below what it was this time last year. The price of eggs has advanced one penny >per dozen. As comparatively small quantities of duck eggs are now being sent in. they sell at the same rate as hen eggs. Supplies of fanners* butter are now very light, apparently the bulk of the cream now ' going to the factories. If the weather is fine for the coming Christmas and New Year vacation a phenomenal demand for hams is expected. So far, however, buying for the Christmas trade has not yet got into full swing, though there have been very steady sales. Splendid rain fell during the week, which was welcomed, not only by dairy farmers, but also by' strawberry-growers. Supplies of strawberries, gooseberries, loquats, and cherries are more plentiful, and prices have eased a little in consequence. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Quotations to-day are:— First-grade factory butter, I/9 per lb retail, cash across counter, and second-grade 1/8. Farmers* butter, 1/4 to 1/6 per lb. according to quality. Cheese, 1/2 to 1/4 per lb, and 1/6 for extra matured brands. EGGS. Fresh hen and duck eggs, 1/9 per doz. Some shop* are asking 1/10 for hen eggs. BACON AND HAMS.
