ROSE SHOW SUCCESSFUL

TABLE DECORATIONS.

YOUTHFUL EXHIBITORS

The rose show of the Auckland Horticultural Society opened yesterday in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall and continued to-day, attracting a large number of visitors. There has never been such a fine collection of roses shown in Auckland, and the other flowers, though not exceptionally fine, are good', especially the pansies. The magnificent display of calceolarias by the Auckland Racing Club was greatly admired, and it is to be hoped the club will send in exhibits at future shows. Another exhibit in .which much interest was shown was the table of rockery plants sent in by Mrs. Tattersfield, who showed her willingness to help the societv bv kindly allowing the plants in her exhibit to be auctioned this evening. In addition to the prize list in last night's "Star" Mr. J. A. Skinner won the first prize for carnations. In sweet peas the winners were Miss Tuke, pink or rose; W. A. Cowan, cream or white; L. T. Briggs, picotee-edged.

The table decorations judged to-day were so evenly good that the judges awarded Mrs. J. Morley Bell and Miss D. Morton a first prize, equal. Mrs. Bell used huchera and gypsophylla and Miss Morton s table was done with a varietv of flowers in tones of blue, purple and red

This year the prize list includes two very young exhibitors. In the open table decorations yesterday the winner was little Miss Patricia Hutchison, who is only five years of age. Her table was so striking that more than one person thought it impossible for such a young child to have arranged it; but the work was done in the hall under the eyes of the officials. Another youthful prize winner was Miss Zoe Miller, who is only a couple of years older. She won in the decorated table class and also with a basket of roses.

The show will conclude this evening with an auction of the blooms at nine o'clock.
