ARAPUNI DAM.

CLOSED FOR 20 MINUTES

ENGINEERS INSPECT TUNNEL

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, Thursday

The diversion tunnel at the Arapuni dam was completely closed for twenty minutes this afternoon, while the engineers examined the tunnel. The Waikato River was completely checked and the water level behind the dam rose to a great height. The river below the dam dropped about 12ft, and it was possible to walk across the river by jumping from rock to rock.

After the inspection the tunnel gates were again opened and the imprisoned water was released.
