FOOLISH TAXI DRIVER.
DAMAGED TELEPHONE BOX. OFFENCE COSTS HIM £8 12/1. The foolish behaviour of Kenzie McLean, a taxi driver, who wilfully damaged a telephone cabinet belonging to the Checker Taxi Cab Company at Devonport, cost him £8 12/1 at the Police Court to-day.
Chief Detective Cummings said McLean broke open the door of the cabinet and cut the wires. No doubt it was done for spite.
Counsel for defendant, said McLean, had no feelings of personal spite, but had probably been induced to act as he had done by others. He admitted that he bad acted foolishly and desired to pay all expenses.
Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., described the offence as a serious one and imposed a fine of £5 and ordered defendant to pay the cost of repairs—£3 I*2/1.
