ANTI-WAR AGITATION.
METHODISTS' SUPPORT. HOPE OP DISARMAMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. An animated debate on the question of disarmament and compulsory military 'training took place at the afternoon session of the Otago-Southland Methodist Synod to-day.
The original motion, proposed by the Rev. Hedley White and seconded by Mr. J. B. Shackloek, was defeated, and the following amendment proposed by the Rev. W. Walker and seconded by the Rev. W. H. Hocking was carried by a large majority: "That this synod rejoices in the present anti-war and disarmament agitation, and trusts that such agitation will result in some practical scheme for a large, measure of disarmament. It pledges its whole-hearted support to the League of Nations, so that all international differences might be settled by arbitration, and commends this to the support of all our churches in the district."
