MR. ROBERT WYNYARD

RACING CLUB SECRETARY.

BORN HERE 73 YEARS AGO.

Mr. Robert Wynyard died somewhat suddenly at his home at Devonport about 3.30 yesterday afternoon. "Bob," as he was termed by all who knew him, was a most popular sportsman. For some time past he had been in failing health, but his death, which came suddenly at the age of 73 years, was a shock to many old friends. Mr. Wynyard had been secretary of the Talcapuna Jockey Club for 44 years. He was the eldest son of the late Captain Gladwyn Wynyard and prandson of Colonel Wynyard, of the oSth I> o '<it;iit, who at,

various times was Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand. In his boyhood Mr. Wynyard was a favourite of Sir George <;rey. He was educated by the late Rev. Robert Kidd, also at the Wesley College und the Grammar School. When 15 years of age, he accompanied Sir John Thurston, Administrator of the Pacific,) on a trip to the Fiji group. When Mr. Wynyard was at college, one of his tutors was a young man named Scott, who afterwards became the notorious bushranger, "Moonlight," in Australia, whose deeds of daring are related in Rolf Boldrewood's "Robbery Under Arms. ,, Mr. Wynyard was a fine athlete, and later became one of the most popular figures on the turf in New Zealand, being of a kindly, genial disposition and invariably courteous. He often acted a3 handicapper for country race meetings. Deceased is survived by Mrs. Wynyard, five sons and five daughters. Mrs. John Wynyard, of Auckland, is a brother of the deceased. The interment takes place to-morrow afternoon at O'Neill's Point Cemeterv.

MR. C. A LEE. WELL-KNOWN BUILDER. One of .Auckland's ■well-known builders and contractors, Mr. Cecil Alexander Lee. died at bis home, Mount Eden, on Monday, aged 44 years. He was born in Auckland, being the only surviving son of Mr. A. G. Lee. who was also a builder. He was educated partly in Auckland, and later in Victoria. He passed an examination to qualify him to practise a? an architect, but decided to tnke up building. He was associated for some year? with his father in the building trade, but 22 years ago started on his own account. He erected several larg-e buildings in Auckland, and at the time of his death had under construction the new building at Wellesley Street Post Office, end the seven-storoy structure in Qtifen Street for Lewis R. Early anJ Son. Mr. Lee bad been president of the Auckland Builders' Association, and wa= a member of the Auckland Automobile Association, tbe Savage Club, and the Mount Eden Bowling Club. He i= survived by Mrs. Loe and throe children. The interment took place this aftTnnon at Hillsboro' cemeterv.
