LONDON MURDER CASE
Goulter Committed For
Trial.
TYFISTE DONE TO DEATH.
(Received 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 17. Sidney Gculter, a motor mechanic, who was charged with the murder of Miss Constance Oliver, a London typiste, whose body was discovered in Richmond Park, has been committed for trial.
The body of Miss Oliver was discovered in Richmond Park, London, on October 5, after she had been missing for gome days. When found it was seen that she had been strangled by a portion of her own clothing. Everywhere there was evidence of a fierce struggle for life. The ground was extensively trampled upon, the clothing of the girl was torn, and her face was shockingly bruised. The body was found in a lonely spot among bushes. The girl's umbrella, broken into four pieces, was found nearby, and all marks of identity had been carefully removed from the clothes of the girl. The murderer, however, overlooked a handbag, which contained the girl's diary, written in shorthand. The relatives of the deceased said that she had made the acquaintance of a man about a fortnight previously. Her sister saw the man the day prior to the finding of the bady, and asked him if he had seen Connie, as her mother was anxious. The man replied: "My God!" I will see your mother." However, he did not do so and the police then issued a description of "Sidney Goulter, motor mechanic." Then Goulter.i who is the son of a retired police inspector, was apprehended and questioned, but no charge was made against him till later. When he appeared in Court, the accused was booed and hissed by excited women. Long queues had formed two hours before the opening of the Court, and feeling was so strong that he had to be smuggled by the police through a side door.
