UPKEEP OF ROADS.

ALL VEHICLES SHOULD FAT. INCLUDING GOVERNMENT'S. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The question of making all vehicles, including those of the Government and local bodies, pay for the upkeep of the roads, was raised at the meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club's executive. The opinion was expressed that if the New Zealand Government Railways put buses on the roads it should pay for the damage they did, especially in view of the Prime Minister's statement that road traffic should pay its share of the upkeep. The secretary said: "The Prime Minister objected to such payments, saying that it was only taking money out of one pocket to put it into the other." It was pointed out that the Government was now putting on its own buaee. Private buses had to pay for the uso of the roads. The matter was referred to the North Island Motor Union.
