THE TARIFF.
The manager of a manufacturing firm in Oamaru. which uses a considerable quantity of bottles, states that under the new tariff a duty of 20 per cent is placed on small bottles, where none previously existed, and an additional duty of 5 per cent on large bottles. This, he states, will increase his manufacturing costs by £340 per year. So far as he is aware, there is only one firm in New Zealand that manufactures bottles, and these are not in sufficient quantities or of suitable sizes. He is at a loss to know, therefore, why the extra duty should be put upon bottles. . . „ ._..__., ,
