FISHING SEASON.
PROSPECTS IN THE SOUTH. BETTER THAX FOR YEARS PAST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. Reports from the Wairarapa indicate that the fishing season will be better there this year than for some years past. Nearly all the trout which went to sea to spawn have, according to those who* have kept an eye on the rivers, returned already, and a fair number of trout are to be seen in the streams. Trout in strong condition have been seen in all the streams in the Palmerston North district. No fewer than 1.175,000 brown trout fry have been distributed throughout the Wellington acclimatisation district. Rainbow fry total 109,000. A large number of yearlings have also been distributed.
