HOMEWARD BOUND.
N.Z. CRICKETERS FAREWELLED (Received 0 a.m.) LONDON", September 20. The New Zealandets had a surprise farewell, the Lord Mayor and Mayoress entertaining them to breakfast at Mansion House. It was a lightning affair, the cricketers dashing from West End and hurrying back to pack and then entrain at Victoria Station. Sir Rowland Blades, the Lord Mayor, toasting the team, said that before they came English people were inclined to appreciate New Zealand football more than the Dominion's cricket. "You have treated us to a wonderful game at Lord's and the spectators after that were on tenterhooks,"- he declared. "You have shown us how to play in the public interest, showing vigour and sportsmanship." Lord Jellicoe said that, like every other Englishman, he had been impressed by the sportsmanlike cricket of the New Zealanders. They went for the bowling throughout and were full of grit and determination. Mr. D. Hay responded in the absence of Mr. T. H. Lowry, the captain, who was indisposed. He said the players did not intend to lapse into slow cricket when they returned home. The Lord Mayor, Earl Jellicoe, Lord Hawke and Lord Harris farewelled the team at Victoria Station.
