FARMERS' UNION.
AUCKLAND EXECUTIVE
MEETINGS.
THAT WIRELESS ADDRESS
The Auckland branch of the Xew Zealand Farmers'. Union met last evening, Mr. A. A. Ross presiding. A letter, which was received from the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board, was, explained Mr. R. Feisst, the result of a misunderstanding. The Union had protested to the board, not against the present eysteni of broadcasting dairy company statistics, but against the action of certain dairy companies which, in order •to discredit the Control Board, had made public certain highly confidential information. They were amply punished since the Control Board'had been abolished, as they were getting lower prices than ever, and it was decided to reply to the Dairy Produce Board, stating that the ieed.for action was now past. An inquiry from the Kerekere-Waipaipa branch for information concerning dental clinics in the country was referred to the Education Board. A suggestion from the Te Puke branch for a system of compulsory contributary insurance was - deferred for further discussion.
The union expressed its dissatisfaction with the Postmaster-General's reasons for refusing to allow Mr .C. Monro's address to farmers to be broadcasted. The Post-master-General, .in his letter, stated that it was not on' the grounds ■of party politics, but on the general principle that societies and political parties were not permitted to broadcast their views. A member mentioned that he had recently listened-in to an address "boosting" a certain section of the Far North, where a gentleman not unconnected with politics had a lot of land for salfe, and others took the view that religious bodies are allowed to broadcast their doctrines, . and the secretary said he had recently listened-in on ( the radio ~to "a lot of protectionist propaganda." It was, therefore, decided to reply to the Postmaster-General "That the Union is still dissatisfied with, his explanation, as it did pot agree with the facts as we know them."
