MR. RHODES EXPLAINS.
NO DEPUTATION POSSIBLE.
STANDING ORDERS AGAINST IT,
Alter the special meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council, which , was held ftt 7 o'clock last evening, the Mayor (Mr. L. E. Rhodes) was asked by a "Star" reporter what attitude the council would adopt to a deputation if one came down from the ratepayers' meeting at the Jubilee Hall further up the road. "I understand," said Mr. Hhodes, "that there has been a report that some of them are coming down .here to wait on the council. The difficulty is, however, that we have just concluded a special meeting, and now we are going on with a meeting of the Works and Lighting Committee, to be followed by a meeting of the Finance Committee. At the special meeting we could only take the business set out on the order paper, and we cannot receive a deputation at the committee meetings—we have no power to do so under our Standing Orders."
