CHINA QUIET.

CONFERENCE HELD.

Endeavour To Unite Hankow

And Nanking.

KUOMINTANG CHIEF RESIGNS.

(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.)

SHANGHAI, September 18.

The military situation in China is quiet. A conference between representatives of the Hankow and Nanking Governments has commenced, but little has been accomplished yet owing to the unexpected resignation of Wang Ching-wei, chief of the central executive committee of the Kuomintang, at the eleventh hour. It is believed the remaining delegates will proceed with the conference which was originally planned in order to endeavour to unite the Hankow and Nanking Nationalists. The preliminary trial of the 15 Russians who were arrested during the raid on the Soviet Embassy premises at Peking in March has concluded. All the accused were found guilty of agitating to produce an internal disturbance in China. They will be subjected to a | further trial in the High Procurate Court j at an early date.
