ECHO OF 1924 NOMINATIONS.
(Received 10 a.m.) • WASHINGTON, September 18.
Mr. William McAdoo, whose contest with Governor A 1 Smith, of New York, for Presidential nomination, nearly caused a collapse in the 1924 Democratic Convention, has announced that he will not be an aspirant for nomination in 1928, and by inference has also invited his opponent to withdraw.
Governor Smith has declined comment on the situation.
Mr. William Gibbs McAdoo is a son-in-law of the late President Woodrow Wilson, and occupied the position ol Secretary of the Treasury in his Cabinet. His strenuous efforts three years ago to secure the Democratic nomination, created great excitement throughout the United States.
