COOPER WINS BIG RACE ACROSS COUNTRY.
SAVIDAN IN FORM.
Auckland Amateur Athletic Association held a meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday, in conjunction with the 50mile cycle road race championship of Auckland.
W. Cooper won the big event, the threemile cross-country championship. There were six starters, but the only two who bad a chance over the final mile were Cooper and Kells, the former staying ; the better, and winning by fully 35yds. Kells ran an excellent race right through ' the race, but his condition gave out in the final half-mile, this being no doubt owing to his not having had a race for over a month. Cooper has been right at his best form this season, and formed one of the Auckland team to contest the New Zealand cross-country championship, in which he finished ninth, while last Saturday he outclassed the opposition in the two-mile cross-country championship. Another feature of the afternoon was the running of J. W. Savidan, who gained victories in the 100 yds I and 440 yds handicaps. The following are the results:— THREE MILES CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. Going out of the straight for the last lap, Cooper was leading Kells hy 20yds, and maintaining his advantage to the end, he ran home an easy winner by 40yds from Kells, who was one minute a/head of Hen Shall.
