TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHT.

KEMPSEY TO AUCKLAND.

AVIATOR EXPECTED

TO-MORROW. DISTANCE OF 1600 MILES. CALLS AT LORD HOWE AND NORFOLK ISLANDS. It is expected that Flight-Lieutenant Frewen, an Australian aviator, will attempt to fly across the Tasman Sea to-morrow. He proposes to leave Kempsey, on the north-west coast of New South Wales, near Port Macquarie, call at Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands .and then make the final hop for Auckland, the full distance being about 1600 miles.

Arrangements have been made bv a well-known Auckland firm for the landing arrangements at this end, although the exact locality at the moment is not being disclosed. However, as soon as the aviator begins his journey, the Auckland "Star" will be notified, and the expected time of arrival will then be made known.

Lieut. Frewen is using a machine known as "The Stormbird," and fitted with a 300 h.p. British engine. The route has been selected as it is considered possible to refuel the machine at both the islands, Norfolk being within comparatively handy range of New Zealand. It %'as mentioned to-day that the flight is contingent upon the weather conditions ruling, but everything was now in readiness for a start to be made.
