MISSING MAILBAG.

SCANT CHEQUES INCLUDES.

DEPOSITORS CALLED ON.

The mail bag which was lost in transit from Auckland to Hamilton, contained a considerable number of cheques drawn- on banks in the Waikato. According to custom, the banks are now calling upon the depositors to make good the amounts of the cheques. The banks in this instance act merely as collecting agents for the depositors, and do not hold themselves responsible for the loss of the cheques while out of their pos frol. As all the cheques were stamped by the Aucsiand banks, which received them, they aro of no value.
