TAKAPUNA'S FINANCES.
COUNCIL WELL SATISFIED.
PAYMENT OF KATES.
Something more than satisfaction in the state of the borough finances was expressed at last evening's meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council, when it was stated that nearly fifty per cent of the year's rates had already been paid. In a detailed report the town clerk (Mr. H. L. Bowden) said that on August 31 the district fund account showed a credit balance of " £2530, although a month previous there had been a debit balance of £11,794. Allowance had been made for interest, hospital levy, and other charges totalling £7601. All the accounts were in credit and the bank overdraft had been paid off. The fact that during August £22,165 had been collected was substantial proof of the wisdom of the council in again allowing 5 per cent rebate on rates. The rebate totalled £1113. Up till September 7 the total rates collected had amounted to £23,252.
A summary of the current year's rates showed that of £43,750 struck £21,534 had been collected to date.
