N.Z. CUP TRIAL.
The acceptances received for the Xew Zealand Cup trial a mile and a-quarter event on the programme of the Wellington Trotting Club next Saturday week will be considered very satisfactory, and if those Dorses which now remain in go to the post the race will create considerable interest. The class is 2.46 or better, a 2.13 gait and no less than seven New Zealand Cup candidates claim an engagement. W. Tomkinson will not be represented as he has allowed his pair, Bell Harold and Concliff to drop out, but as neither is a Cup candidate their absence'will not be regarded seriously. All told ten have been paid up for and the erratic Holly Boy is the only one on the front end. He has plenty of speed but cannot be relied upon and on his latest form could not be considered as having any chance of winning. Talent, 12yds, has been racing well of late and he goes a smart mile and a-quarter. A particularly brilliant beginner he will lead the opposition a merry dance. St. Mama, Sea Pearl, Queen's Own and Black Admiral, are all on 24yds, and possibly the best of the four will be the improved St. Maura, who went some fine races at Addington last month. Jack Potts may not be suited by the grass track, and again he is not a speedy beginner and the New Zealand Cup will suit him better. Peter Bingen, Prince Pointer and Acron are a trio of speed merchants, but they will have to go all the way to reach' Talent and St. Maura.
