AIRSHIP SERVICE.

DEMONSTRATION FLIGHT.

TO HEW

MT 1930.

ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENTARIANS {By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day.

The programme of Imperial Airways was explained to an interested audience of members of the Legislature in Parliament House by members of the Imperial Airways Mission.

Group-Captain P. F. M. Fellowes, by means of lantern slides, showed the ' development of the airship and explained the technical improvements which have been effected in recent years. He outlined what was being done to establish Regular services to Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and said he was authorised to inform the Government that it was hoped to make a demonstration flight to New Zealand and Austaalia in 1930 provided mooring towers were erected. Two airships of 5,000,000 cubic feet capacity each were being built for the inauguration of the proposed services, and in order to provide regular services to Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand the construction of about twenty airships would be necessary. It was hoped to make the trials in England in 1928 and to do the India trials at the beginning of 1929. In reply to a question by Mr. G. W. Forbes, M.P., Flight-Lieut. Nixon said that the final cost of the mooring tower, including all equipment and the necessary gas generating plant would be about £200,000. Mr. A. M. Giblett, meteorological specialist, said it would be necessary to extend the meteorological services throughout the Dominion, with a view to providing much more tegular reports.
