HUSBAND DISAPPEARS FOR rOOTt AND A HALT TEABS. MARRIES ANOTHER WOMAX. t Yesterday John Cameron Brown (27) was arrested at Takapuna on warrant, and this morning he appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when his wife. Mabel Victoria Brown, applied for maintenance for herself and child. Application was also made for a guardianship order. Mr. M. Adams, who represented the wife, stated that accused left her on January 20, 1023. At that time she had a baby six weeks old, and had only left the maternity hospital. Mrs. Brown had never seen her husband since He left her destitute, and ever since she had been receiving assistance from her mother. She had advertised for accused frequently, but could not trace him. "There is a bad feature about this case," said counsel, "for I was informed by the police this morning that Brown has since married another woman, and has two children by his second wife." "That's outside my jurisdiction," said Mr. Hunt, "but I think I ought to give him is xmonths' imprisonment for deserting his wife. Where has he been during the last four and a-half years?" The arresting constable replied that Brown had been living in Takapuna under another name. In making an order for 30/ per week as maintenance, the magistrate said that Brown should be prosecuted for wife desertion.
