LAUGHED AT PROBATION'
YOUNG MAN SENT TO GAOL
MONET MOT ACCOUNTED FOR.
COLLECTED WITHOUT AUTHORITY.
"Yon have not been living in a way that the law required you to do, and you have laughed at probation, so you can now go to gaol for three months," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M, to John Andrew Riddell (29), who admitted this morning, at the Police Court, that he had failed to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation.
The probation officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, said that on November 11, 1933, Riddell had been placed on two years' probation. He had not reported since July 20 last. "He ha, been knocking about the town collecting money which he has not accounted for, although he has not yet been charged with such an offence," added Mr. Campbell. "I can account for it," replied accused. Detective O'SulKvan told the magistrate that Riddell, when arrested, ad-mitted-that he had collected money for charitable expenses and also that he had not accounted for it.
