A WEDDING DEFERRED.
ARRESTED MAN REFUSED BAIL
TO BE MEDICALLY
"SEE WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE TO-MORROW."
Charged with obtaining from Carl Whitmore, the ram of £5 16/, with intent to defraud, and by falsely representing that he was J. Armstrong, of 128, Renraera Road, and that he had been appointed organist at the De Luxe Theatre, Wellington, .Gerald Rutherford (23), yesterday arrested by Detective Sergeant IsseD, of Newton, appeared at the Police Court this morning. "There are several other circumstances that require investigation, and I ask for a remand until September 15," said Chief Detective Cummings. The remand was granted, there being no application for bail by Rutherford. However, some time later, the Rev. Drummond, of St. Thomas' Anglican Church, Freeman's Bay, asked that accused be aßowed bail. "He is to be married in a day or so," said Mr. Drummond.
"Do you know his condition !" asked Mr. Hunt. "The police are going to have him.medically examined." The minister then whispered a few words to the magistrate. "I won't grant him bail yet," said Mr. Hunt. "We wffl see what he looks Hke to-morrow, after we receive the doctor's report. Until then he can remain in custody."
Accused's future wife, and two friends, who were at the rear of the court, left the building, while Rutherford was taken away with the other prisoners- to Mount Eden.
