GERMAN SENSATION.
Former Policeman Tries To
Shoot Parents.
GENDARME FATALLY SHOT.
(Received 11 a.m.)
BERLIN, September 6. A village near Cassel was the scene of an exciting tragedy when Henrich Klauss, a former policeman, in a sudden fit of madness, tried to shoot his parents. A gendarme, who came to the rescue, was shot dead. Nine policemen advanced on the lunatic's house but retired in the face of a fusillade of revolver shots. Reinforcements under the provincial Governor blew in the door and Klauss withdrew to a cellar, where the damp straw was lighted to drive him out. The police threw a bomb and received another fusillade of shots. Then using hand grenades the attackers entered the house and found the madman dead in the cellar. The casualties were two dead and five wounded.—(A. and N.Z. and Sydney "Sun.")
