Recent letters from Point Chevalier residents regret the defeat of th? tramway* loan and ascribe it to the umriUingnes* of city ratepayers to vote money for cxtenricn to Mount Eden aod Dominion Road. No doubt this was a factor, but there were others. Some voters who live at a distance from the Mount Eden terminus voted against the loan became their experience of City Council management of the feeder buses caused tb«n to think that a body of men responsible for such management were not to be entrusted with the expenditure of £s<Xi.<»(X». Tbc Mount Eden Boundary Road bus frequently waits at the boundary fift«»n minutes. The wait in the evening is much longer. The service is a «*- teen-minute service. This is provided apparently by alternate Boundary Road and three Kings buses. In any case tie Boundary Road bus leaves that point in the evening at intervals of thirty-two minutes, although the journey to the terminus and back takes, say, four minutes each way. Then, again, raisinp the cash fare to twopence has driven away » great deal of business. I quite apree that it would have been better to have separate votei for tho various works, but this point would not have mattered much had the City Council given evidence of capable management.
