NORTH AUCKLAND RAILWAY.
BRIDGE OVER THE WAIROA. REGULAR SERVICE SOON". (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAYILLE, Monday. It is expected that the official opening of the new railway bridge over the Wairoa River, across which a Public Works train ran to-day, will be performed in a few weeks, and the department will establish a regular service between Waiotira and Kirikopuni, instead of Pukehuia. on the southern side of the river, as at present. The opening of the bridge will bring Dargaville within three-quarters of an hour of railhead to Auckland and thus mark an important event in the provision of railway transport for the distance. In future, fat stock of all kinds will be transported by motor trucks to Kirikopuni and railed to Auckland or Frankton, instead of having to be taken to Helensville by steamer. The settlers are now hoping that the Government will soon push on with the remaining 18 miles of railway from Kirikopuni to Dargaville.
