MOTOR CYCLE TRIALS.
Very many of the motor cycle trials now held in Great Britain take place under what may fairly be called "Colonial" conditions. Thus, in a recent event, some idea of the nature of the course may be gained from the fact that the same ground is used by the War Office for testing out tanks before they are put into commission. This year the difficulties were increased still further by heavy rain. Nevertheless, the first man home, riding a 4.49 h.p. 8.5.A., with overhead valves, covered the distance of 47 miles in just under "J9 minutes, so winning the '"Scot" trophy. At the opening event of the Brooklands season this year Mr. Herbert le Vack put up a remarkable performance in the three-lap scratch race. This he won at an average speed of nearly 95 miles an hour on a 496 c.c. New Hudson. During the race he' actually completed one lap at the rate of a little over 100 miles an hour, a feat only once before achieved by a 500 c.c. machine.
