AMERICAN WHEAT POOL.

AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT. NEW YORK, September 2. The Washington correspondent of the New York "World" says the Department of Agriculture announces that the Government has approved of the formation of a gigantic wheat pool to cover practically every wheat-growing State in the United States. It will be headed by the former Governor of Nebraska, Mr. McKelvie. This project is not entirely new, but it is now being actively pushed for the first time. After the full application of the Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Wm. Jardine, had been secured; the Nebraska wheat pool took an active lead in bringing into the. organisation, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. It is asserted that Mr. Jardine realises that the wheat situation in the United States is not on a par with that in. Canada, and that "through the pool it would improve in general condition and provide centralised marketing facilities, both for the domestic trade and the export trade. It is stated that all the money for the project was obtained through the intermediate credit banks. Efforts are now being made to persuade fanners to sign five years' contract to deliver their wheat to the pool.
