CORNER FOR BUSY BEES.
A CRETONNE APRON.
SAVE LEFT-OVER PIECES,
(By TINKER BELL)
Dear Girls,—
Stripy of cretonne that are too small {or cushion covers are often wasted when curtains have been made. A search through these pieces will often produce enough material to make one or two pretty aprons. . A fair si nil piece is required for pinafore itself, and long narrow strips of contrasting colour or design for border 'and strings. The large piece must be 16 inches wide and 27 inches long. For the border of different material, four yards of three-inch wide strips and 29 inches of six-inch strips are needed.
Cut off 13 inches of the wider atrip and machine it aCross the top of the apron, placing the two right sides together. Arrange the fullness in the form of a box pleat. Turn in the other edge of the strip narrowly and hem to the reverse side. Take what remains of the wide strip and attach to the bottom of the front on the same way.
For the sides, divide the four yards of three-inch strips into two equal lengths. Starting from the bottom, ajad placing the right sides together, machine one strip to each side. The remaining length of each at the top acts as a sash. Turn in the border of these narrowly, and hem up neatly on the reverse side, making a border about one-inch wide on each side of the apron. When the top is reached, turn in both edges of each sash and machine together, thus ™»H»f two long ends to tie. The garment is now finished.
