JEALOUS HUSBAND.
CONEY ISLAND STABBING AFFRAY. While hundreds of persons looked on, two young men were stabbed in front of a restaurant on Coney Island by a stranger whose wife the young men had mistaken for an acquaintance. The crowd stood dazed as the young men gasped and fell. Nobody made a move to stop the assailant. He hastily put away his knife and disappeared among the throngu with his wife. The wounded young men, both of whom were stabbed in the abdomen, were taken to the Coney Island Hospital. Doctors there expressed little hope for their recovery. The men told detectives that thev went into the restaurant for dinner and had been seated only a few moments when their attention was directed to a darkhaired young woman seated at a table opposite with another young man. One said he thought he recognised the young woman as a friend. He rose, crossed the room and walked up to the table. He said he was uncertain about his identification and wanted to be sure before making any salutation. When he looked closely at her, he said, he realised his mistake, and, mumbling an apology, walked away. Both finished their meal, paid the cheque and strolled toward the door. The young woman and her escort had already left. Just as the two men stepped into the busy throngs on the sidewalk, the woman's escort grabbed one of the men 'rom behind and whirled him around. Maintaining a firm grip the man lunged with a long bladed knife and his victim fell. Another quick thrust caught his friend. He staggered and went down amid the awed crowd of men, women and children. The shock of the attack stilled the witnesses. The man strode toward his wife, put the knife in a pocket and shouted to one of the men: "I'll teach you not to flirt with a man's wife." Then the man and the woman hurried off and disappeared. The excitement did not start until the throngs had recovered from the shock and then several women became hysterical.
