QUICK AND BUSY.
BRIEF POLICE COURT SESSION
ARREARS OF MAINTENANCE.
Police Court business this morning occupied the attention of Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., for exactly six minutes. In that brief period three first offending drunks were each fined 5/, in default twenty-four hours as the compelled guest of the Government, and Walter James Dyer answered a charge in respect to being £37 7/8 in arrears with a maintenance order for the support of his brother.
It was explained that Mr. Povnton had made an order against defendant for the payment of 6/ a week for the support of his brother, and 4/ off the arrears. The charge, however, had now ceased.
Defendant stated that as a casual labourer he was earning £2 a week, and frequently not that amount.
Th 6 magistrate said that they had a single man with no. one but himself to keep, 1 who could i»ot' find money for the support of his brother. Dyer was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays 5/ a week off the arrears. It was estimated that he would only have to pay £20, as defendant had not been credited with the order having ceased some time ago.
