DAIRY PRODUCE.
A HOPEFUL OUTLOOK.
CHEESE POSITION STRONG.
Messrs. Spedding, Ltd., have received the following cable from their London principals, Henry A. Lane and Co, Ltd dated yesterday:— '
The cheese position is strong. Canadian production shows 25 par cent shrinkage. Canadian stocks are 26 per cent, and the united Kingdom's stocks 20 per cent less than at this time last year. Canadian price for shipment is £4 16/ to £4 17/, c.i.f. The market here quotes £4 16/, with an upward tendency. For butter the position is sound at 176/ to 180/. If the Australian drought continues, prices will continue to advance."
Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. have this day received from their London house, Trengrouse and Nathan, Ltd., Tooley Street, the following cable:— Butter.—New Zealand, 176/. New Zealand butter, 176/. Cheese, 96/. Both markets firm. LONDON, September 1. Butter is in steady demand, and prices are hardening. Danish is selling at 186/. Choicest salted, New Zealand, is quoted at 174/ to 176/; exceptionally fine, 178/; Australian, 172/ to 174/. Unsalted is scarce, New Zealand bringing 180/ to 182/, and Australian 176/ to 178/. The cheese market is firm. New Zealand 95/ to 96/, Australian 92/ to 93/. I AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE. i MELBOURNE, this day. Wheat. —5/9% per bushel. Flour.—£l3 5/ to £13 10/ per ton. Bran.— £7 to £7 10/. Oats—Milling, 4/7 to 4/8 per bushel: feed, 4/3 to 4/4. Barley.—English, 4/3 to 4/6; Cape, 4/. Potatoes.—£B 10/ to £9 10/ per ton. Onions—£3 5/ to £3 10/.
MELBOURNE HIDES.
MELBOURNE, September 1
At the Melbourne hides sales to-day the market was strong. Medium lights and kips advanced one farthing. Others were firm.

Wheat for delivery in September is quoted at Chicago at $1.34% per bushel. For December delivery the rate is $1.39%, and for March $1.42%.
