LADIES' HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
. GOOD WORK BEING DONE. A largely attended meeting of the Auckland Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary was held yesterday afternoon in the Hospital Board's offices, Ktchener Street. Mrs. A. D. Campbell, president, was present and Mrs. Alfred Kidd was in the chair. The organisation has for its sole motive the assistance of the sick poor, who hare been compelled to enter hospital, and their dependents, and to follow up, after they have returned to their homes, with such assistance as will help their return to health and activity more quickly. As one speaker explained in the case of the breadwinners their dependents had to be looked after, both for their own sake and for the sake of the community. The secretary, Mrs. Maguire, read correspondence which stated that the proprietors of the Majestic, the Strand and the Grand theatres would grant the use of their entrances for collecting on street collection day. The Mayors of Mount Eden and Onehunga were allowing a street collection, Devonport was being written to on the matter, and the Mayors of Birkenhead and Takapuna had failed to reply. Mrs. Kidd proposed that a small leaflet be printed giving in clear.terms the objects .of the ' work, these to be given away to purchasers of a half-a-crown button, which made I the donor a member. [ In regard to funds it was proposed that a grant of five pounds be made to branches, and Dr. Buckley Tiirkington proposed that an amount of money equivalent to that raised by the sale of badges be returned to each branch, so that the -centre organisation should be able to keep clear accounts. As a temporary measure this was passed. Street Collections. Mrs. A. D. Campbell, acting Mayoress, reported that a meeting had been called and practically every organisation had offered to assist. All the arrangements were well in hand. In regard to the sewing circle Mrs. Bapson said that already they had been able to answer one call for help. Dr. Buckley Turkington stated that .she had a band of girls ready to undertake the sweets and cigarettes distribution on Sundays, and she hoped that would be able to provide home-made sweets. Mrs. Tiarks explained that motor transport had been arranged for and that a friend was taking her place while she was in hospital. Mrs. Hammond Hyde, reported on the depot committee that their room was now open and already gifts of jam, fruit, vegetables, eggs and warm underclothing had been received and forwarded to the Women's Medical Ward. Mrs. Mary Dreaver, convenor of the wireless committe, said that as the result of a talk on the air she had received the sum of £20 from listeners-in, while Mr. fiitchIngs has made the donation of a £12 radio set to be adjusted to a bed in the Costley ward for the use of a patient, which was afterwards to become the property of the infirmary. -_Mrs. W. E. Bush reported that an entertainment in connection with the hospital auxiliary was arranged. Gift of a Sewing Machine. The useful gift of a sewing machine was mentioned by Miss Ormond, who had received it from Mrs. B. Black, St. George's Bay Road, for the use of the auxiliary sewing activities and a vote of thanks was passed to the donor. Mrs. Hallestien, of; Melbourne, was also thanked for her assistance and advice. She had started this movement in that city and now had forty-two branches working. Mount Eden has a committee formed of fifty-seven.ladies,. Miss B._ Payne explained, and had taken a depot. Fifteen
