My Junior (Stubbs) and Wild Nut (Webb) were worked out in company this over a couple of circuits. They both trotted solidly, but were not going at top speed. N. Cunningham is working Golden Park and Single Mint. Both earned place money last season, and Single Mint may turn out a useful pacer at the country fixtures this year. Direct Morning, who has been a disappointment since he eame across from Sydney, is doing regular work again. This morning he was exercised without the straps over a couple of rounds.
The Mangere trainer, A. Cameron, opened the season last year with Jean Darling, Aggie Bell, and. Gaza, and all three won money for him. At present he has only Jean Darling in light "work.
T. Ttoe 13 handling a rising two-year-old by Nelson Derby—Gold Girl. Both sire and dam could go very fast, and or± the score of breeding the youngster should be able to muster up pace later on.
The Gold Bell mare, Black Gold, who is entered for the Wellington meetings was lame when exercising at Epsom this morning, and unless she makes; a quick recovery there is not much chaifee of her being taken to the meeting.
Wrigley, now one of A. G. Lee's team, is coming along nicely, and promises to' be well forward when the spring meetings open in Auckland. With the hopples on this morning he stepped along freely over a mile and a-half.
< G. Robertson strapped up Logan Rothschild and allowed him to rim 'plong this morning. The gelding looks Really well, but in the past •he Ist? always been a delicate jjoes not stand much hard Admiral Hood and Horizon, in jteam, are doing regular exercise.
■i C. E. Lindsay has a small but useful team in work at Fernside, including hi» Cup candidate, Talaro, the three - year-old Harvest Child, a two-year-old brother to Harvest Child, a three-year-old gelding from Any Money, a straightout trotter, a two-year-old filly from Driftmine, and a two-year-old colt from Mavis Bingen, all by Sonoma Harvester.
; The smart trotter, Elzear, has been taken in hand again by W. Tomkinson. The six-year-old daughter of Peteretfc 4nd .Lady Elwood won five races last ..Season and improved her handicap from an absolute maiden to a 4.37 mark. Ekear has a very fine burst of speed *nd stays well, but she is inclined to be Erratic and is not an easy mare to keep flteidyi
Mr. R. Peacocke will havehis trotters Koez and Gold Sovereign racing later on in the season. Roez has been running Out on her owner's tarm in the Waikato, but is to be brought down next week and placed in T. Roe's hands again. Gold Sovereign is not likely toi be raced ■„this side of Christmas as be is to have an operation performed upoo him for throat troubles.
F. G. Holmes has no easy task in front cf him to get a stake with - Doctor Dillon. The son of Harold Dillon opened his account with a couple of seconds last season, but be did not do any good afterwards, and in his subsequent eleven starts he finished among the also starteds. He had a couple of runs at Addington last month, but could not get near the place getters.
V - Paul is working Golden Grattan at Mangere. The chestnut | daughter of Gold Bell and Grattan Maid only raced twice last season. Her first start was at the Thames, whece she was ; not seen at her best, although she went fair race. Going on to the.Cambridge meeting she won the Hautap'u Handi- <;> cap. 3.4 class, and only had to put up J 3-5, but it was a close call between "I. ti ctor y an d defeat because she oiily beat Mint by a neck. * ■
5" T. Paul has had quite a lot of success with his horses dtfring the-past £ few seasons, but if he can win races with Cool King and Kean John then f. e be entitled to a whole heap of c E aise - When trained at Epsonj, Co©! |^ ln - never threatened to go'fast.enougb f;to win a race, but lie would leifre "Wis f&t *2* &° to a break if a breath of wind £ blew across the track. Kean John lias bcen shifted about.. from trainer: to i. trainer, but has not been able to makea f decent showing in his races .fey nkany- a f -' P au l can bring him back to anythina like his best form, it will be "? B °mething to crow about.
t. P re sent T. Roe is confining all '* attention to the requirements of ! boldman and Bluewood. They were not i » profitable pair last season as Bluewood < a /:f £ et the money in four starts, -.while Goldman, in 20 runs, secured a a on one occasion led fourth place for which he earned + j o^lnan is apparently an over-rated-paeer, and it is going to be very 4 , ar j to do anv good unless the v are a bit "more lenient with Bluewood has been racing for so many years that he should know just •- -■When the meeting : -
Normica Heir, who has not raced for a long time, is being kept up to his work by H. Kinnamont. The geldinc nas speed, but in the past has not been too reliable. ■ Tom Thumb, Dick Logan, and Lady Cio are in training at North Canterburv under the care of their owners, J. and Frizzell.
