FOREST FIRE.
Farms Incinerated: Cattle Roasted. FRENCH CONFLAGRATION. tßeceived 10.30 a.m.) PARIS August 18.
It is reported that 20,000 acres of forest have been destroyed by fires following a prolonged drought in the AlpesMaritimes. Var Department. Many farms were incinerated and herds of cattle were roasted alive. The breakdown of telegraphic and telephonic communications preclude any estimate of the losses in lives and property, but the latter is reckoned at 10.000,000 francs since Monday.—(A. and NZ and Sydney "Sun.*")
