LEYS INSTITUTE.
AIL BRANCHES ACTIVE. REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL.
"It gives me pleasure to report on my several visits to the Institute in July," wrote Mr. G. E. Read in a report as visitor to the Leys Institute, which was presented to the City Council last night. "I should like to state/' he added, "that in all the time I have been on the committee, 14 or 15 years, I do not remember all the branches connected with the institute functioning as they are at the present time, and we have to thank the late Dr. Leys for his foresight in appointing Mr. and Mrs. Norrie to take charge of the institute. It is since their appointment that the institute has run so smoothly. To their attention and kindness to subscribers and to the improvement in the different branches associated with the institute the present position is due. It is a great pity that Dr. Leys had not lived till now—l am sure he would have been delighted with the progress made. "I attended one of the orchestral practices," proceeds the report, "and was astounded at the way the orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. Cater, is progressing. There was an attendance of about eighty members, and I am sure that Mr. Cater will make a great success and give pleasure to alt connected with it. The gymnasium, under Mr. Read, was well conducted and well attended by some forty or fifty boys. - "The radio class, under Mr. Wrigley, was also well attended, and good progress is being made with the sets under construction. "We should congratulate ourselves on having such instructors as Mr. Cater, Mr. Read, and Mr. Wi'gley. I was more than pleased with everything I saw iii~ connection with the management of the institute." The report was received.
