WEDDINGS OF THE WEEK.

A wedding of interest took in Shanghai on June 2, when Miss Jean Duncan, daughter of Mr. Alexander Duncan, of Brisbane, and niece of Mr. Wilson Dutocan, of Grey Lynn, was married to Mr. Frank Victor Bead, of Hongkong the son of Mr. William Read, of H.B M. Consulate-General, Canton, and a member of the Revenue Office staff of the Shanghai Municipal Council. Miss Duncan was the lady who, when driving in China at the time of student riots, was shot at and wounded, while her companion, Mr. Mackenzie, was killed. The ceremony was held by Vice-Consul James, at H.B.M.'s Consulate, and later by the Rev. Dr. John Darroch, 0.8. E., at the Union Church before a large gathering of friends. The. bride wore a picturesque frock of white crepe de chine and georgette artistically draped to the left and finished on the shoulder with a spray of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of lilies and sweet peas. The matron of honour, Mrs. M. Pearson, Wore a frock of floral georgette of pale blue, and she carried a bouquet of pale
[pink carnations. Mr. Frank Hobbs gave the bride away, while Mr. S. V. Gash performed the duties of best man. A reception was held at No. 11, Park Road, when a large gathering of friends were present. Piper Major D. McLennan, of the Shanghai Scottish, contributed at the reception with a selection of Scottish songs. Among the numerous gifts was a rose bowl to the bridegroom from his colleagues of the Municipal Revenue Office. EYTON—FERGUSSON. The marriage of Miss Ellen Fergusson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Fergusson, of Ruatangata, to Mr. G. P. Eyton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eyton, of Matakana, took place at the residence of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Morrison, ol 21, Dean Street, Grey Lynn, on Wednesday. The Rev. Thomas Halliday officiated. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. J. F. Mo-rrison, looked charming in a frock of apricot crepe de chine, and was attended by Miss Elsie Roke, who wore a frock of rose crepe de chine. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. H. G. Morrison, cousin of the bride. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. W. Cowsill, Mrs. Peers, Mrs. Pink, Mrs. Widdows, Mrs. Aston, and Misses Baker and Cooper, Mr. H. Duck, Mr. D. Upton, Mr. C. Morrison, Mr. G. Tennant. PLAYLE—MORIARTY. The marriage was solemnised yesterday, at the Church of the Epiphany, Auckland, of Mr. Arthur Playle. only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Playle. Parnell. to Miss Maie Moriarty, of Epsom, and late of Melbourne. The Rev. R. Geo. Coats officiated, and Mr. John Tait, A.R.C.0., presided at the organ. The church had been tastefully decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of Mr. Arthur Stevens, looked charming in a gown of ivory satin beaute and silver lame. Her veil was of embroidered tulle draped from coronet of orange blossoms. A white shower bouquet was carried, with tulle streamers. Miss Winifred Stevens acted as bridesmaid, daintily attired in heliotrope taffeta silk, trimmed with silver lace, together with a headdress of silver leaves. She carried a shower bouquet to tone. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. E. J. Hewitt as best man. After the ceremony the mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. Playle, in grey gabardine, entertained the guests in the Holy Sepulchre Hall, which was gaily decorated for the occasion. Among those present were: Mrs. Cole (Whangarei), blue and pink crepe de chine; Mrs. Stevens, mulberry and fawn; Mrs. Brewer (Ohaupo), putty colour; Mrs. Farnham, mulberry georgette; Mrs. Lamb, brown ombre georgette; Miss Jamieson, pink silk georgette; Miss Sybil Stevens, fuchsia; Miss R. Lamb, orange velvet; Mrs. Driver, jade green; Mrs. J. Hewitt, black satin; Mrs. L. Lamb, navy repp.; Mrs. Nixon, black silk; Mrs. Kidd, floral georgette. There were also many pretty dresses worn by the younger members of the party.
