A.J.C. TURNOVER. BIG GOVERNMENT REVENUE.
The popularity of the totalisator as a betting medium is indicated by figures contained in the annual report of the Australian Jockey Club. The amount that passed through the totalisator at Baadwick was £1.129.204 and at Warwick Farm £113,889 5/. making a total of £1,243£93 5/ for 30 days, as against £1,294,M0 15/ for 32 days n tie pre von s year. The State benefited by way of revenue from the totalisators to the extent of £111,878 10/3. in addition to this amount the State and Federal Govern taenia received, in respect of admission tax, entertainments tax, and one h»lf the fees paid by bookmakers, the sum of £84,893 18/10, making in all £196,772 9/1Respecting the new totalisator rules. ; the report adds: Tt is too early to form any opinion whether the new method of eaknlatnf* dividends w!I prove more jJupwLar than the rid one, bot the Treasury dßdris are confident that it will ocrnse the turnover. It is, however. . understood that if the new method does not prove a success, the old system will be reverted to, or another system fives, a trial.
