GREY'S AVENUE.
GREY STREETS NEW NAME.
Grey's Avenue is to be the future name of Grey's Street, by decision of the City Council last evening. A recent petition was presented to the "ouncfl by a number of residents asking for a change of name, because the street had fallen into disrepute to some extent as the result of remarks by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. B. Mcllveney. A fortnight ago the Legal and Byllaws Committee recommended that the name be changed to Queen's Avenue, but this recommendation was referred back. Mr. L. A. Eady objected to Grey Street being called an avenue. He said it was fast becoming a street in fact and bore no resemblance to an avenue. There appeared to be undue concern about a comparatively small complaint. Mr. A. J. Entrican said that Grey Street was undoubtedly an avenue, and one of the finest in the city. It had row* of trees. The council decided by 10 votes to 9 to adopt the new name.
