LOST TO HAWKE'S BAY. APPEAL BOARD'S DECISION. 0 manawhenua the holders.
The Appeal Council, consisting of Mr. ft J. Arneil, Mr. J. L. Conlan, and Mr. P. Httkie met last evening to consider the vtppeal of the Hawke's Bay Union «l«hst the decision of the New Zea'f land Rugby Union in awarding the Ranfcly Shield to Wairarapa on the pounds that W. Barclay was not eligible ssr to take part in the game. The finding of the council was unanimously against y Hawke's Bay, and the appeal was dismissed. '--I- The effect of this decision is that tie Wairarapa Union will have its name inscribed on the shield, and then hand rt over to Manawhenua Union, a team representing that union having beaten Wairarapa in a challenge game. Advice of this decision was telegraphed to the N-Z.R.U. executive last night.
