MANUREWA'S DUMP.

MOKE OBJBCTIOMB BECXXVBD. THE SITE ABANDONED. Considerable discussion took place at last night's meeting of the Manurew* Town Board, regarding the property recently purchased at Takanini for use as a cemetery and dump. A letter tras received from the Papakura Town Board expressing it* disapproval of the propaoal to establish, a dump so near to the Papakura Town District. An adjoining property-owner also forwarded a protest, adding thai he intended claiming damages for depredation in the value of his property. . The Health Department wrote stating that a strong protest had been received from the Takanini Ratepayer* and Beaidents. Association- The Department stated further that whilst its approval of the site for a dump had been given in 1924, the establishment of Tironni railway station in dose proximity had quite altered the position, and it now considered the locality unsuitable. «, The chairman (Mr. A. C. A. Sexton) stated that the board did not propose to press the matter of a dump, although if sufficient pressure was applied the health authority might be induced to change its mind again. The advent of Tironui station had not altered the position so far as population was concerned, while as regards the county council's objection the board would have to rely on an appeal to settle this matter. The board did not seriously intend to put a dump there; it realised that the landwas not suitable for both purposes—in fact, it was not big enough. Mr. C. A. Fawcett: Oh yes, we intended to, all right, until there was a row kicked up. The chairman denied this, and added that the main point for consideration was that the county council did not intend to grant a permit for a damp anywhere in the county. Mr. G. Gallagher: Is there no appealing against the court's assessment of £825? Mr. G. Osborne: It is a ridiculous price to pay; is there no way of revoking it? The Chairman: Oh, no; it would cost £300 or £400. Mr. C. H. Lupton: That would be nonsense. Mr. Osborne: It would be worth it. This ended the discussion, and it was decided to issue the necessary debenture*. The foreman (Mr. B. Forbes) was instructed to have the work of clearing the gone from the proper* x pat in hand at once. *
