CAR AND MILK LORRY.
EARLY MORNING COLLISION. PASSENGER DIES OF INJURY. . SAID HE WAS "ALL RIGHT." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. In the early morning of August 5, a motor car driven by James Hargreaves ■collided with a City Corporation milk cart driven by William Patrick O'Gorman. Victor Wilde Smith, aged 31, who was an occupant of the car, died in hospital on August 10 as the result of injuries received. It was stated at the inquest to-day that although Smith had severe injuries to his head, including a bad fracture of the skull, he told his friends he was feeling all right and was able to walk away. He was found later in a Kilbirnie tramway shed. He was conscious when he' was admitted to the hospital on August 5. After an operation he rallied for a few days, but died not long after a second opera cion. The evidence showed that Smith, Hargreaves and some others in the car had been to a dance party. When the collision occurred' both car and milk wagon were on the wrong side of the road, going in the same direction. Hargreaves.said he was travelling at 15 miles an hour and did not see the milk cart, which, he contended had no lights, until too late to avoid the collision. : O'Gorman said his vehicle had lights. The night was very wet and visibility was poor. As it was possible there might be an action for negligence against the City Council, the corner, Mr. E. Page, SJU., said he would not comment on the evidence beyond saying that apart from being on the wrong side of the road neither party appeared to be negligent. His verdict was: Deceased died from injuries received in collision at Kilbirnie on August 5. . -
