MR. W. J. HAMMILL RESIGNS.
COPE'S PROGESS REVIEWED.
General regret was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby League last evening when the chairman (Mr. W. J. Hammill) tendered hi* resignation on account of business reasons.
Mr. Aimmill- said that ho had' made the decision with deep regret. Hβ accepted the chairmanship of the Auckland Rugby League in 1922. The assets of the League were then worth £4730; to-day they were worth £11,289. (Applause.) It was something that any sporting organisation could be proud of. The progress, season by season, had been steady and sure. The "gates" this yesr were £200 better compared with the same period, of last year, which was t> record year* With efficient control the game could be kepi in the forefront of Auckland uport, where it undoubtedly was to-day. The assembled delegates in turn eulogised Mr. Hammill'e services in the interest of the League code. Mr. E. Staßworthy said that the inauguration of the League code in the Auckland primary schools would be a lasting monument to Mr. Hammill. Mr. W. J. Davidson said that it was largely due to Sir. Hammill that the League football was the leading winter sport in Auckland. Appreciation of Mr. HammiU's services were recorded by minute, ere the retiring chairman was made a life member of the League.
Mr. George Rhodes wae elected as the hew-chairman of the Management Committee.
